Family with Pups!
Whale sharks have babies called pups. First, scientist thought whale sharks laid eggs, but then they found out they don’t! Whale shark pups when born are about 16-24 inches. That is huge for a fish pup! Did you know whale shark pups when they are in their mom’s tummy they don’t share blood or nutrients with them. Also whale sharks reproduction is different than ours. When whale shark pups are in their mom’s tummy they’re in a egg case, but then break out which then they’re born. Isn’t that weird to have eggs, but have live birth? I think that's pretty weird. A whale sharks average litter is 12. While we take care of our babies whale sharks don’t. As soon as the pup is born it leaves its mom. That’s weird not taking care of your babies if you think about it. Female whale sharks grow quicker than males and are bigger than males. Whale sharks can be as old as 100 years old. That’s really old for a fish, probably just as wise. As you can see, whale sharks are fascinating creatures.
